How can the Rotary Literacy Foundation help?
Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society. It is a bulwark against poverty, and a building block of development, an essential complement to investments in roads, dams, clinics and factories. – Kofi Annan
PEI Rotarians can make a difference in the Island economy by working to support and promote literacy in the workplace. A 1 percent rise in average literacy will result in a 1.5 percent permanent increase in per capita GDP and a 2.5 percent increase in labour productivity.
The Rotary Literacy Foundation is committed to improve workplace literacy. How can we help?
- We identified the need.
- We know where to find the the people.
- We have the expertise in PEI to help businesses help their employees.
- We have Rotarians across PEI to help make things happen.
By way of example, many years ago a Rotary International President challenged Rotarians to take up literacy in their own countries just as they did in the fight to eradicate polio.
We all know how well that fight against polio turned out!
Literacy is all our responsibility: business, government, labour, and communities.
